LOCATIONSanta Teresa is the artists' quarter of Rio de Janeiro. Described frequently as the ‘Montmartre Carioca’- Carioca means ‘of Rio’ - its bohemian streets scale the hillsides over the city centre and are dotted with bars and restaurants, galleries and mansions, offering stunning views of Rio and the ocean and mountains beyond. Throughout the year Santa Teresa hosts parades, open-air and open-house art and food markets, live music, capoeira displays and practice nights for the local samba school in preparation for carnival. Villa Leonor is a 25 minute taxi ride from Tom Jobim airport and just 10 minutes from the domestic terminal (Santos Dumont). From the city centre it’s a beautiful 15 minute tram journey through Santa Teresa on the bonde marked ‘Paula Mattos’. Alternatively you can take the metro as far as Gloria or Cinelandia and a taxi up to the door for R$10. |
